What is Recreational Softball?

Recreational Softball is designed for players who want to learn, play, and have fun without the pressures of high-level competition. Emphasis is placed on:

  • Skill development – learning the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, throwing, and base running.

  • Participation – every player gets a chance to bat and play in the field.

  • Sportsmanship and teamwork – fostering respect, encouragement, and confidence both on and off the field.

  • Fun and enjoyment – making sure players love the game and develop a lifelong appreciation for softball.

Recreational softball is perfect for girls of all skill levels who want to play, improve, and make friends, whether it’s their first season or their fifth.

Wildcat Cubs Division (Ages 3–4)

We’re excited to introduce our Cubs Division — coming Spring 2026! This new division was created especially for our Future Wildcats, giving our youngest players their first fun experience with softball.

Cubs will meet once a week, starting with a 30-minute practice followed by a short game where every player gets a chance to bat and be part of the action.

At Brea Girls Softball, we’re all about family and community — so players from our 10U, 12U, and 14U divisions will join the Cubs on game days to help guide, cheer on, and mentor these future stars.

6U Division (Ages 5–6)

Our 6U Division teaches the fundamentals of softball in a fun and encouraging way. Players hit from a tee or coach pitch and begin to learn the basics of throwing, catching, running the bases, and teamwork.

Games focus on skill development and confidence-building, with every player batting and playing in the field.

8U Division (Ages 7–8)

In 8U, players continue to build on their fundamentals while learning more about the flow of the game. This division introduces player pitching alongside coach pitching, helping players gain confidence at the plate and on the mound.

The focus is on growth and teamwork, with coaches teaching game awareness and sportsmanship in a supportive environment.

10U Division (Ages 9–10)

The 10U Division brings an exciting step up in competition and skill level. Players learn advanced techniques in pitching, hitting, and fielding while continuing to develop their understanding of game strategy.

This division follows standard USA Softball rules with minor modifications to promote development and safety. It’s the perfect balance between competitive play and continued learning.

12U Division (Ages 11–12)

Our 12U Division continues to challenge players as they refine their mechanics and game strategy. Pitching distance and base paths extend to align with higher-level play, and players experience a more competitive environment while still emphasizing teamwork and respect for the game.

Coaches focus on preparing athletes for advanced play, whether they continue in recreational or competitive softball.

14U Division (Ages 13–14)

The 14U Division offers players the opportunity to compete at a higher level while continuing to develop leadership, teamwork, and advanced softball skills. Games are played by full USA Softball rules, helping prepare players for high school and travel ball.

Our 14U athletes also give back — serving as mentors for younger divisions, helping with clinics, and inspiring the next generation of Wildcats.
